Samsung and Other Companies Limit ChatGPT Use
Samsung, a leading tech company in South Korea, has decided to limit the use of ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence tools on its computers following recent incidents of information leakage. The company issued a memo in late April stating that the use of generative AI would be temporarily prohibited on company PCs from May 1st. Samsung has since limited the upload capacity per employee to 1024 per question to prevent future incidents, and it is also developing its own AI service for company use. The company warned employees that failure to adhere to its security guidelines could result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment.
SK Hynix, a semiconductor company in South Korea, has also prohibited the use of ChatGPT on its internal network, while POSCO, a steelmaker, is only allowing ChatGPT use through a business communication platform used by the company. These restrictions reflect a growing concern among organizations worldwide regarding the use of generative AI, which can develop texts, images, or other media in response to prompts. Other companies such as Amazon, Verizon, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Accenture are also limiting the use of ChatGPT in the workplace due to concerns about information leakage. Gartner reported that 48% of HR leaders are still finalizing their guidance on ChatGPT, while 34% do not plan to issue any guidance on the AI tool.
